1 saute onion
and bell pepper in oil and a little water for 1 to 2 minutes. Add crumbled
tempeh and water and continue to cook until tempeh has absorbed all the
water.
2 add the remaining ingredients, except buns, tasting as you go
to reach the desired balance of sweet and tart. Simmer for 5 to 10 minutes,
adding more water when necessary to keep a moist but not watery texture.
3 spoon a portion of mixture over halves of heated hamburger buns
and serve.

Ingredients:
- 2/3 cup chopped
onion
- 2/3 cup chopped green bell pepper
- 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
- 2 tempeh patties (8 ounces each). Thawed and crumbled.
- 1 cup water
- 1 1/2 tablespoons molasses
- 1 to 2 tablespoons brown sugar
- 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
- 4 to 6 tablespoons hickory smoke-flavor barbecue sauce
- 1to 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
- 6 hamburger-style buns
